From unexpected emergencies to tenant-related issues, here’s what’s typically included in our landlord insurance policies:

Home Emergency with boiler cover from £86

Is it a legal requirement to have landlord insurance in the UK?

No, it’s not a legal requirement to have landlord insurance in the UK. However, if you have a mortgage, taking out landlord insurance may be a condition of your mortgage provider. Additionally, if it is a mortgage requirement and you don’t have cover in place, this can violate your mortgage terms and even invalidate your home insurance.

Do I need landlord insurance?

While it isn’t a legal requirement, having property insurance for landlords is always advisable – so both you and your property investment are protected financially.

What type of landlord insurance do I need?

There are various types of cover included in insurance for landlords.

  • The most essential cover is usually buildings insurance which covers the cost of repairing or rebuilding your property
  • If your rental is furnished, you’ll probably want to consider contents insurance which will protect certain appliances, furniture, fixtures, and fittings
  • Liability cover will provide protection against accidents or incidents that happen on your property
  • Then there are various other elements of cover which can be included, such as home emergency with boiler cover, accidental damage cover, legal expenses, and more.

Additionally, you might want to seek out specialist cover for more unique circumstances. For example, you might need specialist student landlord insurance, or maybe you rent to DSS tenants.

At Protect My Let, we know there’s no one-size-fits-all insurance policy for landlords. So we can work with you to get to know you and your requirements, matching the cover you actually need for both your property type and the tenants you let to.

Do I need landlord insurance and homeowners’ insurance?

No. Landlord insurance and homeowners’ insurance are two separate policies for different circumstances. Landlord insurance covers your rental property for specific risks associated with a rental, and homeowners’ insurance covers the property you own and live in. You don’t need both insurances for the same property at the same time.

How much does landlord insurance cost?

The cost of landlord insurance varies depending on your property and the type of tenants who you’re renting to. We advise that your main priority should be to secure a policy that’s built around your needs and the specifics of each of your rentals, rather than just searching for a cheap landlord insurance policy. That’s so much more efficient than opting for an off-the-shelf solution where you could end up paying for pointless extras while missing out on the essentials.

That’s why at PML we make sure your landlord insurance is exactly what you require. And because we’ve been in the business for so long and our specialist team have a wealth of experience and connections, we can access exclusive deals to get you comprehensive cover if that is what you are looking for.

So rather than focusing your search around price, maybe switch to searching for the most reliable landlord insurance in the UK – to get the best cover possible.
